Our translation agency provides you with certified translations of COVID-19 tests and other laboratory reports. Ever since the “Corona Pandemic” started not only Germany, but also other countries keep issuing constantly-changing, country-specific travel warnings. Even though it is once again allowed to travel to and from most EU States, some restrictions are still in place for other countries. Those who travel – whether for business or for pleasure – are still encouraged to always gather up-to-date information regarding Travel and Safety Instructions in respect of entry restrictions and quarantine regulations. Although there may be no current travel warning for one specific country, the number of infected persons can change quickly.

For this reason, some states and countries require a SARS-CoV-2 antibody test, which can be used to determine whether a certain person has been infected with COVID-19. And while the EU accepts tests carried out inside the Union, you will need a certified translation in order to entry or exit the states and countries that are not in the EU. In other words, a translation of an official document that has the certification note of a sworn translator. As a professional translation agency, Berlin Translate has a large network of sworn translators who can quickly and reliably translate and certify laboratory reports, as well as passports, birth certificates and diplomas.

For whom are certified translations relevant?

At the latest, you must present a negative test result to check into hotels or vacation apartments abroad. But even those who return to Germany from a risk area must take an antibody test in order to rule out the possibility of them being infected. This test is free of charge for those who show symptoms before arrival. But tourists who are not suspected of COVID-19 have to pay 150-200 € per test.

You should always check the specific regulations for your  travel destination before a trip. Generally speaking, it is always advised to have on hand a certified translation of your documents if you find yourself in a country where your mother tongue is not spoken. But this applies especially for travellers to non-EU countries or students who want to continue their studies abroad have to present certified translations of COVID-19 tests.

In which situations do you need a translation?

The negative antibody test can be at most 48-72 hours old, depending on the travel regulations. That means that you should take the test just a few days before your trip. However, considering that the certified translation must also be available upon entry or exit, you should request one as soon as possible. Our team from Berlin Translate recommends you to contact us right when you start planning your trip and that you let us know early on that you are about to have a COVID-19 test. This way, we can make all the necessary arrangements for your certified translation. We will make great efforts to complete it within a 24 hour time frame. Travel regulations and cancellation

Since travel agencies and airline companies want to minimize the risks their customers subject themselves to, some are now offering free cancellations due to “Corona reasons”. If your test is positive, you are of course no longer allowed to travel, but you will usually get a refund. You can claim full travel costs, even if the Government has issued a travel warning for the travel destination in the meantime. In order to do this, you should state the COVID-19 pandemic as your reason for cancelling.

When choosing your accommodation, we also recommend that you gather in advance information regarding potential cancellation charges, cancellation costs or travel regulations. In most EU Member States, the hotel management determines whether the accommodation can be cancelled free of charge or whether fees will be incurred. Sometimes, the entire amount cannot be paid despite giving valuable reasons. However, if you book your hotel or holiday apartment through intermediary websites, such as booking.de, you can usually still cancel the trip free of charge 24 hours before check-in.
