Online internship in translation at Berlin Translate

Allow yourself some time to test your skills by immersing virtually into the everyday work of translators.

Online internship

The online internship at Berlin Translate offers the opportunity of an internship to those who cannot relocate to Berlin to do an internship. Doing an online internship, you would have a fixed daily workload that would have to be completed during the time that suits you. You would receive the tasks (mostly translations) by email and send the accomplished tasks back every day/evening. So, if you would like, say, to take a course at the Adult Education Center or are unable to leave behind your friends in your hometown or have other reasons why you cannot work in-house, you would be able to schedule your work hours so that they fit your own needs, provided the tasks are accomplished in the evening.

Translator’s tasks and responsibilities:

–           proofreading/editing translations, with and without Translation Memories, in the fields of technology, economics, medicine, law and IT, including checking the consistency with source texts and with customer requirements

–           processing various files/data formats (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, FrameMaker, InDesign, PDF)

–           working with translation tools such as Trados Workbench, Across and Transit

–           updating translation memories

–           cleaning-up files

–           producing your own translations after a successful initial training.

Translator’s qualifications and our requirements:

–           during the entire internship period you are enrolled in a university course of Translation Studies or Linguistics (and are at least in your second semester);

–           you have a thorough knowledge of German, English, Spanish or French

–           you have a solid command of German and English (spoken and written), other foreign language skills are an asset

–           you have an affinity to technical, medical and economic topics

–           your individual strengths include a thorough, structured and efficient way of working

–           you are open-minded towards new fields, topics and technologies, have a fast comprehension and a flair for languages and for style

–           you are proficient in the use of the MS-Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

As part of our young and dynamic team, you would have exciting and challenging tasks in an international environment. Working with us, you would not only get to know the realities of this business sector, but also gain insight into the work operations of a globally acting provider of language services.

We are looking for candidates who:

–           think themselves before they ask questions

–           find solutions to problems within a certain scope on their own

–           like to learn and to implement new things

–           are reliable and

–           do not consider the internship as simply one of the university requirements and just sit around there marking time, but rather see the internship as an opportunity for a breakthrough.

Benefits of an Internship

You always benefit from an internship in many ways, regardless whether it is a high-school internship or an internship required to complete your university course. The interns gain the idea of what the profession of their choice is really like in everyday life.

After all, there is often an ideal conception of a job that has little in common with the everyday practice. The interns not only learn the main tasks awaiting them, but also for example accounting, acquisition of orders, accepting of orders, invoicing, working with files/documentation or handling defaults in payment.
